Summer / Winter:   Walking    Climbing    Scrambling    Camping    Biking    Ski-touring ... Socialising

Welcome to the Forth Valley Mountaineering Club Website

The club has around 40 members, is informal and sociable, and all our members enjoy the freedom of the hills in whatever ways suit them.  We are active in the Scottish and other mountains, in all seasons and covering summer and winter walking, climbing, scrambling, camping, biking and ski-touring.

The FVMC has two Facebook pages; a private page for paid up members and an open page for anyone interested in the club's activities and general mountaineering articles. See the open page on; https://www.facebook.com/ForthValleyMountaineeringClub.

About the Club

We are one of the clubs based in central Scotland, with members mostly from the Falkirk, Stirling, Linlithgow  and West Lothian areas - although a few live further afield and the club keeps in touch with ex-members around the world.  Anyone is welcome to come along.

Our activities

We organise day meets and weekend meets (see Club Meets). Many also do their own thing in between these. The number and diversity of independently arranged trips are perhaps the greatest strength of FVMC. As a member, you are also in Mountaineering Scotland so can also arrange extra individual hut accommodation for your own excursion with details from the meets secretary.

Why join a club - consider the Membership benefits

  • shared experiences and companionship of other mountaineers.

  • access to club booked huts or bunkhouses for weekends away, and your own trips.

  • opportunity to lower costs by pooling transport from Forth Valley to the hills and back.

  • Mountaineering Scotland third party liability insurance.

  • joining trips abroad arranged between members (walk, ski, climb, trek ... ).

Why join our club?

  • small enough to have an informal, friendly culture where everyone knows each other.

  • space enough on meets so that anyone can book into the next events, i.e. no queuing.

  • relaxed enough so that everyone can do exactly what suits them in the hills.

  • established enough so that there's a huge bank of experience and advice to pick from.

  • big enough to have a complete programme of monthly weekend and day meets.

General meetings

  • Our club social evening is the first Tuesday of the month at The Four Marys in Linlithgow.

  • The annual general meeting is held in March, where you can  make your views known and elect the committee for the next year. Postholders normally stay for two years only, so we build responsibilities broadly and with no 'cliques'! You can also update your membership and get a new FVMC card.

  • FVMC subscription for 2019-20 is £20. If you are already a member of Mountaineering Scotland (perhaps through membership of another club) annual subscription to FVMC is reduced.

How to join

  • Visit https://www.facebook.com/ForthValleyMountaineeringClub, and send a message to enquire.

  • Or visit us on the first Tuesday of the month at The Four Marys in Linlithgow from 20:30hr onwards.

Forth Valley Mountaineering Club endorses the Mountaineering Scotland participation statement:

“Mountaineering Scotland recognises climbing and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions and involvement.”
